- Describe your work: What area of fashion & design do you focus on?
Sevaria is a Kenyan based fashion brand that prides itself in making culturally inspired genderfluid/androgynous pieces.
- What are you most inspired by and what is the core value/driving principle that leads your work?
Our inspiration is to shed light on African cultures/tribes/religion/music/art through our silhouettes, textiles, styling, and creative direction while fostering individuality and self-expression through our design.
- Has COVID-19 affected your practice as a designer and your approach to your brand?
It has allowed me to create my collection and given me a chance to finalize most of the pending things I had not done for the brand.
- Can you tell us about your supply chain and the materials you use?
We source our fabrics locally from different fabric stores then produce our pieces with the help of our tailor.
- What does ‘Made in Kenya’ mean to you?
Made in Kenya to me as a designer means either the tailoring or making of the textiles was done in Kenya.
- What shifts would you like to see take place in the global fashion industry over the next 5 years?
I would love to see more Africans wearing more locally made clothes.
