- Describe your work: What area of fashion & design do you focus on?
We develop stylish and functional running footwear and apparel.
- What are you most inspired by and what is the core value/driving principle that leads your work?
I am inspired by possibility, i.e. How far can I or my work go?
- Has COVID-19 affected your practice as a designer and your approach to your brand?
Covid-19 has made us lean more towards our customers and the changes they are going through in their work and personal lives. By listening to them, we are more likely to design what fits into their changed lives rather than what we think the market wants.
- Can you tell us about your supply chain and the materials you use?
We have both a local and international supply chain. The main materials we use for apparel are cotton and polyester. For footwear, we rely on the global supply chain for ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) and woven mesh.
- What does ‘Made in Kenya’ mean to you?
Made in Kenya means going the extra mile to make things locally and were not possible, to collaborate in a way that ensures skills transfer so that workers can make the products themselves. Made in Kenya also means we are proud of our production capacity as Kenyans and that whatever bears that mark can be trusted for quality.
- What shifts would you like to see take place in the global fashion industry over the next 5 years?
Elimination of fast fashion and consideration of job creation as ‘sustainability’ rather than focusing on just the raw materials that go into making a product.
