1.Describe your work: What area of fashion & design do you focus on?
We focus on women’s clothing. We have a ready to wear line and we also do bespoke.
2. What are you most inspired by and what is the core value/driving principle that leads your work?
Greatly inspired by nature and our African culture.
The core principle and value that leads my work is to empower women, to make them feel comfortable with themselves, their bodies, and the clothes they are wearing.
3. Has COVID-19 affected your practice as a designer and your approach to your brand?
Yes, it has.
It has now enhanced the use of appointments and online interaction.
It has made us look at local solutions and innovate when it comes to our supply chain
Our waste management had birthed a lifestyle line with some products that were inspired by a change of lifestyle by the pandemic. e.g. washable shopping bags, small sanitary pouches to carry mask and sanitizer all from the waste we get from making garments
4. Can you tell us about your supply chain and the materials you use?
We use cotton, linen, silk and blends of polyester and viscose. We source our fabrics some locally and abroad.
Our hope is to find locally sustainable solutions for most of the supply chain.
5. What does ‘Made in Kenya’ mean to you?
It means being able to support and build our local fashion ecosystem from supply to end product and not tiring in our efforts to achieve global standards for quality.
6. What shifts would you like to see take place in the global fashion industry over the next 5 years?
Have an ethical and sustainable fashion industry.
Have more African brands in the global markets and be competitive.
