Suited by Gordon

1. Describe your work: What area of fashion & design do you focus on?

The brand’s speciality is in the precise cutting and tailoring of bespoke garments. Styling of suits.

2. What are you most inspired by and what is the core value/driving principle that leads your work?

The desire to satisfy the self-actualization and self-esteem needs of my clients through dress.

The need to address the significant lack of uniqueness of designs in the tailored garment market.

3. Has COVID-19 affected your practice as a designer and your approach to your brand?

Yes. The pandemic has stifled output levels(production) owing to the glaring decline in demand for bespoke garments.

4. Can you tell us about your supply chain and the materials you use?

Being a sole proprietorship venture, the supply chain is rather brief i.e. supplier of tailoring materials to head designer to the final consumer. The materials I use are suiting fabrics that vary depending on the client and how much they are willing to pay for a specific material.

5. What does ‘Made in Kenya’ mean to you?

Embracing locally manufactured commodities for the furtherance of the economy and opulence of the clothing and textile industry.

6. What shifts would you like to see take place in the global fashion industry over the next 5 years?

Adoption of slow fashion as opposed to fast fashion to curb the adverse effects of disposed of textiles on the environment. Shifting of manufacturing of textiles to more biodegradable or eco-friendly raw materials.
